Hyundai and Kia always has something out of the ordinary happen. My model was an ICE with two major flaws: one meant that the engine was liable to catastrophically fail and catch on fire at around 90k miles, and the other made it so stealing them was literally child’s play. Kids were making TikToks on how to steal them…

Hyundais just aren’t good cars. They cut corners to the max, and when shit goes south just try to gaslight everyone involved. I’m highly skeptical that their EVs are high quality, because their ICE models were shitboxes.

  • Nobody is this stupid. You’re being intentionally dishonest.

USDA isn’t the private sector. There are strict rules against firing the vast majority of employees. It’s why Trump has largely gone after probationary employees, as they have less protections. Even that has been wrapped up in several different ongoing court cases.

There are also mortgage forbearance programs designed for temporary job loss. Even without them, foreclosure is a lengthy process. It’s not something that’s initiated after one missed payment.

So for this story to be true:

    1. OP, a progressive Twitter influencer, lives next to a hardcore MAGA republican. Unlikely, but relatively common
    2. Said MAGA republican is also a federal government employee. More unlikely, but still relatively common
    3. Said federal government employee is among the roughly 10 percent of government workers that are probationary. Relatively rare, but not unheard of
    4. Despite being new to federal employment and federal employment known for someone that you do for the long haul for pension reasons, OP’s neighbor has the money to buy a house. Relatively rare, but not unheard of
    5. Despite having the finances for a home, is in such dire straits that the only option after one missed paycheck is to sell their home. Very rare, but not unheard of
    6. Despite being very into politics and a government employee, is wholly unaware of the pending legal actions against said firing, including the current rulings reversing the staffing cuts.

All of this is possible. The world is a strange place. However the confluence of all those things being true is highly improbable, perfectly matches the “dumb conservatives gonna regret their choice” narrative progressive influencers push, and is sourced from a platform known for being full of misinformation and bait.

    • On Twitter, the site known for random misinformation
    • OP knows their neighbor well enough to know where they work, despite that not being nearly as common these days and OP not seeming like the kind of guy that would befriend Trump supporters
    • OP’s neighbor is one of the minority of federal workers who are probationary employees, because that’s the only group Elon has been able to really fire right now
    • OP’s neighbor simultaneously being a homeowner with a previously-stable job, but being in such dire financial straits that simply missing two paychecks results in a complete crashout.
    • OP’s neighbor then selling the house instead of taking advantage of the large number of hardship programs that would be available for someone with issues paying their mortgage, at least temporarily.

Like is this possible? Yes. However it’s highly implausible, and conveniently matches the whole “stupid Drunpf supporters regret their decision” narrative that both Lemmy and reddit absolutely adore. To take this at any sort of face value without any genuine shred of concrete evidence is insane.

  • You’re right. At least doctors have actual experience in the field. There are legions of academics who have never actually attempted to apply any of their knowledge to any sort of real life situation, have an extremely limited ability to function in the real world, and somehow are even more arrogant than medical doctors by an order of magnitude.

Case and point, this comment. The natural conclusion of anyone without an extreme superiority complex is that I just mildly misread the OC because, like the vast majority of people, I spent like 10s glancing at this post before commenting

Meanwhile you have your head so far up your ass that you immediately launch into an incredibly pretentious rant that somehow manages to stretch a three sentence point into three paragraphs, each of which is somehow more insufferable than the last.

Everything about you gives off the energy of someone who thinks they are better than everyone else because they can quote Foucault at will, and thinks the reason why they can’t seem to make connections outside of their field is because people are too intimidated by an “intellectual”.

  • Joe Rogan is a caveman, but I hate this mentality.

I’ve had a ton of horrible experiences with doctors. Misdiagnosis, given bad medication, bad medical advice, etc. A common trait all of them had extreme arrogance. They all thought they had all the answers, and that modern medicine was infallible.

If you had an issue they couldn’t put a clear label on fairly quick or weren’t responding to treatment in a textbook way, then that was somehow your fault. Either you were lying, or exaggerating, or it was all just in your head.

I’m not alone in this experience. Basically every American with any sort of complex health issues has had a bad experience at the hands of someone who claims to be an expert. That’s on top of the medical establishment letting bad medicine go on for years, because they are extremely reluctant to admit they don’t have all the answers.

Obviously, none of that makes Joe Rogan any sort of intellectual or trusted authority on anything except bro science. How you can’t expect people to have unflinching trust in doctors when doctors let people down so often.

  • That’s actually exactly what I mean. Eight years ago is “almost a decade”. Since his defeat in the 2016 democratic primaries:

    • Bernie sanders was named a member of the Senate democratic leadership
    • Members of Bernie’s 2016 run were incorporated into the demo
    • Bernie sanders was runner up in the 2020 democratic primaries, winning a several states and beating out more establishment candidates.
    • Joe Biden agreed to adopt several progressive policies as recongnition to the movements power within the party
    • Bernie Sanders endorsed Biden, and acted as a campaign surrogate in a way he was never asked for for Hillary
    • Bernie Sanders declined to endorse or encourage a challenger in the 2024 democratic primaries
    • Bernie Sanders took the establishment position of backing up Biden after his absolutely disastrous debate.

Dude has had massive political and social pull for a long time now, and has very little to show for it.

  • No because there are a million different websites that just don’t follow these rules. All this does is dissuade people who are both clueless about where to find porn and not particularly determined.

It also won’t make a difference when basically every major social media website is a softcore porn website. I feel like conservatives opened their crusade by targeting thotfluencers they would have had a lot of momentum.
