When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world - “No, you move.”

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•D7VK brings Direct3D 7 to Linux using Vulkan based on DXVKEnglish
11·9 hours agoAwesome. I keep saying that one of the big gaps in Linux compatibility is older games. Most recent stuff runs without a problem, but stuff from the late '90s and early 2000s often still doesn’t work.
Plus, that stuff often doesn’t work in modern Windows, either, so if they worked in Linux they’d be Linux-exclusive.

movies@piefed.social•Paramount Reportedly Wants “Fresh” Take For Star Trek, Moving On From Another Kelvin Movie
1·14 hours agoThey’d typically still have a central cast that played a major role in every episode. For instance, on the various broadcast TV Star Trek shows the captain would almost always have a major role. I’m talking about separating things to the point that the different episode-types could have their own cast and crew and film simultaneously.

3·15 hours agoDivide the crew into groups. Have an episode focused around the command staff, an episode focused around engineering, an episode focused around sickbay, etc. Have the casts be mostly separate from each other barring the occasional cameo appearance or viewscreen conversation. Basically treat it as several shows that happen to take place on the same ship.

3·18 hours agoIt’s because they’re dirty liberals! And the nice thing about using “liberal” as an insult is that you can claim to be on either end of the political spectrum when you do it, depending on what’s convenient at the time.

I think there was a movie in the '90s or '2000s where people tried to stop a vampire that way, but he counted so insanely fast that it only delayed him for a second or so. Can’t remember the movie, though.
EDIT: Found the clip. Never actually seen the full movie so I don’t know if it’s any good.
In many of the myths, vampires are weaker in daylight but it isn’t fatal.
Swing music also came back for a little while in the '90s. That decade was a nexus point in the space-time continuum.

2·2 days agoA lot of what you mentioned happened in Trump’s first term, yet he was re-elected. You’re also severely white-washing Bush.
In 2008 I thought maybe America could turn itself around. I was less hopeful in 2020 but still considered it to be a possibility. Now it’s clear that America will never be more than one or two elections away from fascism and that the only way for things like democracy and human rights to survive is to limit the damage that Americans can do to the rest of the world.

Unfortunately, Wikipedia is still lacking in its documentation of the Centaur-Pirate Wars.
This comic is better when you read it Manga-style.
