I don’t disagree that people should have to have some sort of proof for extended leave over 5 days, especially if the employer has paid sick leave above the 5 day minimum.
I worked a union job and someone I worked with was sick every second Friday, forcing us to do all of his work, and all of it was paid because we had pretty decent sick time coverage. There was never any sick note requirement. He was definitely a using it. Employer didn’t really care much cause it was his sick pay but everyone else who had to do his work instead definitely held a grudge and planned on doing the work since it was so predictable.
