Nah, anarchy probably wouldn’t have cops to come pick him up at the end. They’d just beat him some more until they felt justified enough cause what else ya gonna do?

Yes I would also love a new calendar. But we can hardly come to consensus on getting rid of daylight savings time let alone a new calendar lol.
I don’t see why it sucks, it just makes sense to start it on the winter solstice as the days start to get longer and longer / shorter and shorter depending on the hemisphere you are in
I wouldn’t mind 6 days on 4 days off
Eh fuck religions, they can keep their old antiquated calenders.
I would like this calender but we would need to adjust it so that new years falls on the winter solstice.
Plus the 5 leap days would need to be a global celebration / holiday period, and the 6th day every 4 years a massive holiday.
I wouldn’t mind a 10 day week if it meant work 6 and then get a 4 day weekend.
But who am I kidding our corporate overlords would expect at least 8 on and 2 off
Wait… Was I a poor kid?

Boycott US•Disney didn't mention 'diversity' in its annual report for the first time since 2019English
3·1 day agoCompanies only care about what makes them more money. If they can pull more customers by saying they love diversity, they love diversity. If they think they will lose more customers, they don’t love diversity.
Yo this dude didn’t mention hunting or owning guns. How lame.
The prestige of a journal is ranked based on how often it gets cited (or in other words, how influential the papers are within the journal).
Wouldn’t this mean that other smaller journals could still publish the random common boring studies and then pretty much everyone would be citing those, since the boring stuff like “Trees consume carbon dioxide” would be cited a lot more than specific stuff like “Molecule XX2 can affect the brain development of Augustus caesarius if introduced between the ages of 3 and 6 months” and than become super prestigious?
It’s a good tactic because whatever lies the Whitehouse comes up with to defend against the first few leaked things might be countered by the next few leaked things. They have no idea what is available to be leaked next so have to be careful what they say.
If it all came out at once they would know exactly what they have to work with when crafting their story.
As well, coming out a little bit at a time means people can focus and pay attention to the details, discuss it.
If 20,000 emails were all of a sudden leaked hardly anyone would care because no one would be talking about the same things at the same time and the details get lost

World News@lemmy.world•Heineken UK cuts Foster's beer alcohol strength to 3.4% - BBC NewsEnglish
1·3 days agoI don’t get why people even bother with stuff like Coors and bud and Heinekan or whatever. There are lots of other options that are good and not close to water. I have not once bought any of those big corporate run beers since I started drinking beer.
I can see why journals would not want to publish boring papers in the days of paper magazines and limited space but why would they not be published digitally nowadays? Limited by people able to review them?
I don’t think a content provider should be allowed to have more than 5-10% of their content be advertisements.
Website screen space, newspapers, tv channels, etc
Instagram shouldn’t have more than 1-2 sponsored post for every 20 posts. At the moment it seems closer to 10.
An hour long TV slot shouldn’t have more than 3-6 minutes of advertisement. At the moment it’s closer to 20-30.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft confirms Windows 11 is about to change massively, gets enormous backlash - NeowinEnglish
10·4 days agoWindows has had a bug that’s driven me mad since before Windows 10 and it doesn’t seem they have any intentention to fix it.
When I try to rename files, I always click somewhere in the text of the name or highlight a specific portion, and then 90% of the time RIGHT before I start typing to add or change the name, it randomly highlights the entire thing so the whole text gets replaced instead of the one section I wanted to change.
INFURIATING and it’s been years that it’s happened, between two different versions of Windows!
There’s also another 2 or 3 other bugs that are just as infuriating but I don’t imagine will ever be fixed or changed because why the fuck would microsoft care.

1061·4 days agoI hate how tech companies just constantly want to change everything.
Just give me something usable that I can get shit done with and fuck off. I don’t want your changes and updates and new feature.
Schools with zero tolerance policies are bullshit.

Plus sometimes situations deserve a little violence.
Give a warning and expell the boy for the AI image instead. That does a hell of a lot more damage than a light smacking.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•When we eat the billionaires, we should spare Gabe Newell? No?
183·5 days agoIn my opinion if anyone has billions of dollars and hasn’t given a majority of it away to charity or those in need, that person is on some level at least somewhat an evil person.
Sure, much of it would be tied up in stocks and stuff that legally can’t be sold for specific purposes or timeframes, but if you have net worth in the billions and any stocks that could be sold for cash and then donated it should be. Or if you have an annual income that’s much more than you need to live an extremely comfortable life and then you just spend and invest the excess instead of donate.

They also shouldn’t be allowed to do anything political on their personal accounts, such as trying to get contributions or clarify political stances, etc. if they have any potential constituents banned or blocked
