What do you think about Taylor Swift not having any Canadian tour dates?

Personally I think it is nothing short of an affront to our Canadian honour, and we should organize a militia to do something about it. I suggest our militia track down her ex boyfriends and start an anti-Swift club.

This article is useless without historical trends. Based on my personal experience, people have gotten help buying their first house since my parents(and in-laws) did it 40 years ago. Now how much help, and at what age seem to have changed but just the idea that people get help with their first home doesn’t seem like a new concept.

There is nothing wrong with you enjoying cursive. It should be an optional class like any art.

I personally enjoy wood working using only hand tools, however if someone needed to learn basic carpentry, I’d be showing them how to use power tools.

Seriously? Even doctors don’t write scripts anymore, its all electronic, and far fewer errors are made because of that.

Cursive is an art, and there is nothing wrong with but it has no practical purpose in today’s world.

Learning to read and write(printing and typing) are valuable skills but specifically learning cursive is not.

I do not understand what has to go wrong in someone’s brain to think harassing children about their genitals is a good idea.

Even if you do not believe in the science of gender, how is this person’s approach make sense?

As an adult I do not understand using children in this way.

As per the article, the answer is yes controlled burns are happening however as mentioned in another reply, it is not enough and our approach needs to change.

I do agree that negativity can be toxic but we can’t ignore that for many people living in Ontario things are all doom and gloom. It is hard to be positive when your future looks hopeless.

I also went to school with no cell phones, and was bullied mercilessly. Staff didn’t care then, and I doubt they care now. I’m glad you went to a school where the adults cared.

This is just silly. Just ban the phones.

I like the idea of a complete ban on cell phones during teaching periods, and maybe even on school grounds at all. I have no idea how to enforce such a ban and as mentioned in the article if schools are struggling to even contain violence, how are they going to manage cell phone use?

The article highlights an issue, there is something wrong with our schools. It is more then just the normal generational discomfort(though that is part of it). Again I don’t know the solution but I think we need to acknowledge that we are failing today’s students(they are not failing us because we are the adults). Then we can discuss how to improve things.

The evidence is very strong that even when EVs are produced and run using fossil fuels, their lifetime emissions are still less than and ICE vehicle.

The car tires being a large polluter is complicated. However the potential is there that for man vehicles the total fine particulate produced by tires wear is greater than the total fine particulate from exhaust. However the question is, what environmental impact does that have?

Ideally the end game should be changes to ensure that our political process and institutions are free of inappropriate foreign influence.

I think of the two concerns, the unproductive asset is more serious. With all our investment dollars tied up, we will struggle to compete globally.

The young people looking elsewhere is less concerning. I know lots of young people talk about moving to the USA, but that is not so easy these days. Immigration to the USA from kinda is not trivial, and with unemployment in the USA slowly increasing, it is only going to get worse.

We can roughly follow the supply chain.

It starts with the dairy farmers themselves. Their input costs vary wildly but variable costs are primarily feed,fuel, and labour. The cost of each of these has gone up outside their control.

Then there is the diary processors. Their input costs are primarily raw milk(see above), labour, and fuel(transportation). Again each of these has gone up outside their control.

Then there is distribution(sometimes part of the same organization as above). Input costs are fuel and labour. See where this is going?

Finally there is retail. Their input are the finished goods(including the transportation costs) and labour.

The last piece of the puzzle is the Canadian Dairy Council and the Dairy Farmers of Ontario(who is the entity that actually sells raw milk to the dairy processors). Together they set the price of raw milk to ensure that diary producers(farmers) maintain a healthy profit and cannot be played against one another in a race to the bottom(AKA Supply Chain Management).

At each of these levels I believe the profit margins have gone up slightly since COVID. However as the increases are compounded from one level to another the end results is a large price increase to the consumer.

Who is to blame? We would need to see the actual profit margin increases of each of the entities in the supply chain. I suspect that in terms of increased profit margin the order is something like 1. Retailers, 2. Dairy Producers(Farmers), 3.Dairy Processors, 4.Transportation/Distribution. I choose this order because of the competition at each level.
