I mean it’s unconfortable to hear it but it’s also an entirely different term

Like if you say your tranny failed and you point at your broken down vehicle, it’ll sound pretty awkward to a lot of folks these days, but unless they don’t know it’s used unrelatedly to refer to a transmission I can’t imagine many folks are likely to think you’re trying to describe them as a lesser, invalid human on the basis of how they relate to gender.

I’d find it a bit awkward or uncomfortable but I certainly wouldn’t take offense by it.

I don’t think anyone who’s used it to refer to like a transmission or transceiver or transit van is a bad person or anything. There’s a lot of room for misunderstanding but part of communication is knowing your audience. Honestly that’s probably the biggest reason I think it’s a good thing it’s falling out of favour- there’s less room for misunderstanding

  • Was curious why they described them as awkward

If you haven’t heard much about Obama’s comments, there’s a reason for that. He chose to deliver them at an event at which audio and video recordings were prohibited. If the idea was to disseminate this clarion call to the broader public, it was a weird choice of venues.

Obama never uttered the word “Trump” once. Throughout his remarks, it was clear what he was talking about. But he opted for broad generalities rather than specifics about who and what are threatening democracy.

It seems possible to me he wanted to address people who are involved in our government moreso that the public, but 🤷‍♂️

  • As a car enthusiast, personally I 1000% agree with the post. To me this is absolutely the right place for this post.

I want my pop up and down headlights back, and instead we have dumb SUVs with bumpers 6ft tall and zero appeal so that a soccer mom can plow over pedestrians with peak lethality

But the popups are “unsafe”. Because then you might hit a pedestrian. At night. When everything being open at night in the US died during covid. Makes sense 🙃

    I want them back 🥹
