I don’t get the AOC hate. I mean I understand minor frustrations with him but I feel like a lot of people want to trash him so quick. Like let the dude cook and I think we could have a solid qb. I think with AP and Hardegree he could really fine tune and tweak his few flaws. I think he could be the real deal just get him a solid backup but I think a lot of us fans are sleeping on my boy. He’s been holding his own, especially with so much change during his rookie year. End rant. Stop the raider hate.

It was his 4th start. Wasn’t expecting much, and he legitimately looked like a 4th round rookie making his 4th start.

All we can do is watch for steady improvement. Garoppolo is riding pine until the season is out because he DOES NOT give us any greater chance at victory than AOC. At least with AOC there’s the unknown.

From my eyes: AOC has horrible footwork and a pretty bad throwing motion. Contrary to what most of you are saying, he is actively progressing through his reads in a timely manner. His awkward base and slow delivery are whats affecting his accuracy more often than not. He’s also not great under pressure (big red flag) and lowers his eyes once he feels the rush. The lack of mobility is a grievance, but that’s never been his game. If he keeps his eyes up against the rush and buys time (see Mayer TD vs Jets), he can operate in the NFL like that for a long time.

All in all, I think he’s got a lot of fundamental work that needs to be done on his mechanics, and he needs more reps against pressure to learn to play under it.

Being a zero star recruit and having to walk on at Purdue would kind of lead one to believe that he’s never worked with a high-level QB coach, as many top prospects do. If he’s hungry and confident enough, he may seek help much like Josh Allen did after his sophomore season (another basically zero star recruit).

He could be good, if he shows progress, I’d be willing to bet on him for another year PROVIDED he gets coaching on his mechanics and there’s another QB there to push him.

He’s been working with Jeff Christensen as his QB coach since high school, so that’s why accuracy has been the key priority in his training. May make sense to spend some time working this off-season with a mobility-focused coach. Unless there’s some magic key to unlocking it, he’s never going to be the mobile QB this sub is clamoring for, but if he can get a few more plays a game where his feet give his eyes and arm more time, maybe he’s good enough to hang on over a rookie.
