Just because the rise of the insurance premiums came late, I would not call them unexpected. After all, and insurance is a business first and foremost, and houses built in a catastrophe-prone area will have to deal with crazy premiums in the future. Regardless of they being built in an earthquake zone, the middle of a dry forest known to burn every year, or on the coast where hurricanes are a regular occurance.

It is hard for the people living there, but they cannot expect that they get treated as if there was absolutely no risk to their homes, at the cost of all other insurance customers.

Not stupid, selfish. They want a view and don’t give a shit about the environment.
