The solution here is to put the switch into the diverging route, get in the trolley and stick it to full throttle… tracks are old enough the trolley would be more likely to derail above a certain speed anyway.
You either get a derail, a shortened time of suffering, or you get Multi-track drifting so no victim favouritism. A win-win-win situation.
