I’ve been an avid Telegram user for quite some time now and I’ve noticed something interesting lately. Whatsapp, which has historically lagged behind Telegram in terms of features, seems to be rolling out new updates at a faster pace. It almost feels like they hired a developer from Telegram.
It’s hard to ignore some of the recent additions to Whatsapp that Telegram has had for ages. Examples are
- Multiple device support: Not quite the way it's implemented in TG but close.
- Channels
- Block calls from non-contacts
While it’s possible that WA dev team has stepped up their game and Meta(Facebook) is known for blatantly copying features, I can’t help but wonder if there’s something more going on behind the scenes.
If (contacts.DoesNotContain(incomingCallNumber)) { Call.Reject(); }
Why are you giving away TG corporate secrets?
Can’t stop the signal.
Unless it’s from an unrecognised number, I guess.
Still whatsapp lacks behind many features that telegram has. Also they don’t have any good web interface or a native client for linux where telegram did remarkably the best.
Even the whatsapp windows client is an electron.Large orgs copy features constantly. Hell everyone does. Features aren’t intellectual property - and that’s a good thing - and it’s not like anything you’re referencing is a trade secret or tech moat.
Yeah, I have noticed that Meta have released more updates frequently lately. And Telegram are very late for their next major update. Last major update came out 2 months and 2 days ago.
Yep, I’ve noticed that as well. Telegram’s monthly updates were/are a big deal.
And now we know why next major update are delayed. They are working on Stories which will be released next month. https://t.me/durov/213
What I noticed instead: What happened to the sticker flood? Was an extremely talented illustrator turned away?
No, I don’t think so. https://t.me/ohuenko is the lead director in this department.
