Amid a heat wave, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill dissolving ordinances that ensure construction workers get breaks to drink water and rest in the shade.
Ironically, when I was stationed at Fort Cavazos (then Fort Hood) we were not allowed to work a full hour outside without breaks if the temperature was above 90 degrees - and hard work (like teardowns, construction, etc.) mandated more break time than work time in higher temps.
This bill is contrary to best practices, not to mention cruel and hateful. But then, for the GOP, the cruelty is the point.
