I wonder how long it will take for the EU to sanction the US. In the case of Belarus, it took them only a few days, and this seems even more serious.

Who am I kidding, most likely nothing will happen and USA will keep spying on their “allies”. Anyone remember when Germany “investigated” the NSA tapping Merkel’s phone? That investigation was simply dropped. For context, no investigation was necessary to enact sanctions against Belarus.

At the very least the european union should fine or make some sort of consequence for the US.

With the Belarus sanctions from euyropean countries it’s a bit different as Belarus already had sanctions from a lot of countries from previous aggressive action, and as the plane hijacking put a lot of people from a lot of other countries in danger it made sanctions go even harder. Although I don’t know directly why the US is putting sanctions on Belarus, but it could be a joint deal with other countries but it’s kind of out of place, I agree.

There is a different context. No fighter jet was involved, it was a normal landing.

At the same time the Belarus plane hijacking by the oppressive government was planned to get the two persons into Belarus to be arrested. They were not planning or supposed to be in Belarus at all, and have actively avoided Belarus and Russian airspace for a long time. The alleged bomb threat refered to a palestinian bomb attack which the journalist would never have any connection with, and which Hamas has refuted.

The plane hijacking also is not in accord to how these dealings were done. The european union, meaning basicly almost all european countries condemning the whole hijacking. This situation is well documented. There will also be a military investigation into the whole matter to give insight in how Belarus planned it and all the players.

Belarus had to know that the journalist would have taken the plane and that they’d have a possibility that they’d otherwise never have the opportunity to detain him.

Another activist has also died in Belarus prison very recently https://edition.cnn.com/videos/world/2021/05/26/belarus-activist-death-dnt-walsh-vpx.cnn

Another journalist also was sentenced for reporting on reporter’s death https://apnews.com/article/katsiaryna-barysevich-sentenced-belarus-protester-death-1309daeee6882331bbc68181dd2ab868

Belarus is quickly being named ‘the north korea of europe’, particurarly with all the police violence done towards protesters protesting the detainment and sensorship of opposing voices. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-54961111

You might be missing the context of this whole matter, particularly when comparing it to other plane situations that don’t have the same context at all. I know you won’t agree, but you are also supporting authoritative regimes that want to stifle human freedom. All of Belarus’s action is declarative facts and it’s suprising to see you continually coming with excuses for terrible behaviour and whataboutism.

There is every reason to believe that Belarus want to arrest this journalist to set a scene for all other journalists and opposing voices in Belarus. And that they have every reason to try cover up the situation, even though you can see through it like water. The european union reacting to this just to spite Belarus is a complete and blatant conspiracy.
