Its what people who think they’re clever use as a word for people who are autistic. The “joke” is that autistic sounds like artistic, thus calling them painters like a coward.

        Man that is some reaching.

Painters breath fumes all day, not that they are all that dangerous or anything, but leads to stereotypes. It’s also an inside joke among constructions workers, there is a “hierarchy” of trades and the painters are near the bottom, therefor the butt of most jokes.

If not, you’re welcome for the out.

I honestly never even thought of that angle before now, but damn. Is that no longer politically correct? It is being taken derogatory?

Painters are also notorious for using drugs, in particular weed.

The stereotype exists for all the “wet” trades, plasterers etc, but painters get it the worst.

IDK, sheet rockers get it pretty bad with the piss jars, mudders (your plasterers?) smoke crack. They all get it pretty bad.

But fuck what they do is a damn art form. It takes a special talent to be able to get a decent lvl4, no mind a lvl5 and have it paint nicely.

Sniffing paint for 8 hours a day is more than enough education for me.
