In the words of one Facebook moderator who spoke to The Intercept on the condition of anonymity to protect their job, in practice the policy “leaves very little wiggle room for criticism of Zionism” at a time when precisely that ideology is subject to intense scrutiny and protest.

    See this too:

In 1984, Palestinian American intellectual and Columbia University Professor Edward Said famously argued that Palestinians are denied “permission to narrate”.

More than 30 years later, in 2020, Maha Nassar, a Palestinian American Associate Professor at the University of Arizona, analysed opinion articles published in two daily newspapers – The New York Times and The Washington Post – and two weekly news magazines – The New Republic and The Nation – over a 50-year period, from 1970 to 2019. Perhaps unsurprisingly, she found that “Editorial boards and columnists seem to have been quite consumed with talking about the Palestinians, often in condescending and even racist ways – yet they somehow did not feel the need to hear much from Palestinians themselves.”

I would like to inform admins that an accident that happened with me on Reddit is a part of this.

r/linux moderator, now c/linux moderator, CAP_NAME_NOW_UPVOTE and his friends took no time to ban me last year when I accidentally used triple brackets to denote someone as a troll, which I learned from 4Chan, and immediately made a correction on being notified by the mod with a permanent ban.

Triple brackets being a hate symbol was something I never knew, as I as an Indian never knew or participated much in Israeli politics or knew about the same. The moderators there ordered me to stop using 4chan while banning me off their subreddit, putting users in a cornered position.

I think there is needed zero explanation on my anti bigot and anti racism stance, which goes in line with my Reddit and Lemmy history.

The moderators of large subreddits are no less than dictators, that come here, and bring their dictatorial diseased termite-infested ironfisted censorship and leave zero room for criticism of Israelis, in the name of marking people as anti-Semitic even when history of users fails to denote the same.

On r/privacy, a dictatorial power moderator trai_dep did the same with people, on criticism of Israel from the WhatsApp hacking of activist accounts https://removeddit.com/r/privacy/comments/gael34/whatsapp_israeli_firm_deeply_involved_in_hacking/

Lemmy must be made different, to stop the anti Semite racists and neo nazis, while leaving room for intellectual discussion and criticism. A line must be drawn carefully, yet boldly. Speaking this with full responsibility, as someone who has a Palestinian friend.
