I’m currently playing Dead Island 2 and Amnesia: The Bunker.
I picked up Dead Island 2 from Epic Games, where it’s currently on sale AND Epic is having their 25% off coupon promotion, so I thinks thats the cheapest DI2 has been. I’m really enjoying it - its got addictive melee combat with really gross zombies, and the characters are just great so far. The story’s a little campy, the colors are loud and vibrant, and (for me at least) its wonderfully optimized for PC. I have an older GPU (1660ti) and its running great. Its basically everything I wanted from a Dead Island sequel.
Amnesia: The Bunker is growing on me. It’s on Game Pass right now so I decided to jump in. I love the Amnesia ambiance, but I wish they’d drag the control scheme into to modern era. Once you get used to the controls though, theres a lot to love here. It’s dark, and the environs really set up the tone. Strongly suggest playing with the lights out and headphones on to get the most out of the art design and audio. It has lots of flavor text, and slowly reveals it’s exposition with lots of notes and visual cues. My only concern at this stage is that I may end up finding it a bit hard for me.
Next up I’m really considering getting Dead Space and Killing Floor 2 before the Epic sale ends, and if you consider Diablo 4 to be horror, Im definitely picking that up sooner or later because I have friends who want to co-op it with me. Ive heard great things about it.
What about y’all? Anyone else here enjoying some horror gaming of late?
Alien isolation. Not recently just recomending it
It was too scary for me haha, I just couldn’t handle the fear
Oh yeah. Anixiety riddled game. Still a blast
I’m playing signals. At the moment, it seems good. From what I’ve played it’s more trippy horror than horror horror.
I second Alien Isolation, it’s still very good.
Played Amnesia Rebirth, which is pretty hated. I didn’t hate it but it was obviously doing a lot of work to fill out lore for a game that I hadn’t played.
Capcom’s RE Engine is phenomenal on most hardware, up there with the Fox Engine. I strongly recommend every Resident Evil that has been released since 2017.
The only exception is to not pay too much for Resident Evil 3 (2020) as it’s half the size as normal.
Resident Evil 2 is my favourite of the last 6 years.
Developing Try to fall asleep, check it out if you have time
I’m usually not a fan of horror but there are a few I really enjoyed.
SOMA is worth playing for the story alone, especially if you liked amnesia since it’s made by the same team.
Omori isn’t a traditional horror game but it’s really good, and gets really terrifying at points.
Distance is an underrated gem. It’s not really horror, it’s an arcade racing game, but the main campaign does some really cool stuff that I think qualifies it.
Dead Space is fantastic. I never played the original, so I’m glad this remake knocked it out of the park. It’s more action oriented like Resident Evil 4, but still atmospheric enough with headphones or a good sound system.
RE7, on the other hand, gets my blood pumping the way Amnesia did when I (tried) to play.
I actually tried playing resident evil village last night. I’m not normally a horror game person and I found the lack of ability to save anywhere so I can bail pretty anxiety inducing haha. Not sure if I’ll finish it, but I’ll try my best.
The Subnautica and Doom (2016) games were pretty fun, although truth be told the Subnautica games made me way more uncomfortable. There’s just something about being trapped hundreds of meters underwater, forced to worry about oxygen, drinking water, food, power supply, trying not to get eaten by giant creatures. I actually managed to kill a few leviathans toward the end, but it wasn’t easy:
not really horror, but I finished the last of us and its dlc yesterday, it was great! I only had to wait 10 years and 2 months of patches to be finally able to play it on pc lmao
