If I as a user don’t want to interact with or amplify an instance - such as lemmy.ml - for whatever reason
Is there a way to do so? I’ve been blocking individual communities on Lemmy.ml to avoid amplifying that instance. But more pop up. Is there any way for me as a user to block an entire instance?
Since the developers are the problem, it’s probably not likely they’ll implement. But I’ll keep on eye on this and maybe contribute if there is a soft fork.
I don’t think I’d view them as a problem here. They need to triage the issues and they’re going to focus their efforts on things they see as a bigger benefit. They haven’t indicated that they would deny code contributions to add this feature.
We’ll have to see, but by my past experiences with Tankies and other authoritarians, I don’t expect reasonable behavior.
They have shown a history of being open to contributions to Lemmy separate from their extreme political opinions. But you need to choose how you spend your efforts, I understand not wanting to risk having your effort essentially wasted by having your contributions denied.
Personally, I wouldn’t contribute to a project controlled by authoritarians - But I also understand why others would.
The reason I wanted to block the instance to begin with is mostly so I can use Lemmy without feeling compelled to focus on these issues.
Well I mean the problem is we are using it, so we need to fork it or not if we are going that route. But making a contribution and having it denied is the first step to a fork.
Good thought, thanks.
