IIRC, the allergy comes from a tick bite, not something inherent to the steak. Once you are allergic, you are allergic to all mammalian meat. I’ll look it up and edit with a link.

I know, the comment was tongue in cheek
There are ticks in the northeastern (I believe) US which transmit the same allergy, not sure if it’s the same species of tick.
It’s not just Australia.
