Hi all, apologies if this question has already been answered elsewhere or if it is not welcome (I am a noob here and don’t know exactly how to search properly), but I was curious of the question in the title. Many of the largest Lemmy instances are struggling and it would be great to be able to use some of the smaller ones. However, at the moment only a select view instances are available in the Jerboa.

I definitely appreciate the work you guys are doing though. Hope all is well!

I’m fairly certain when you log in on jerboa, the instance input field is a text field with some promoted options.
So if you have your own instance at mysupersocial.example you can type that into the instance field manually.
Creating an account would likely require you to use the web version of mysupersocial.example (I have no idea if jerboa even allows for signups)

You are able to just type in the URL of the instance you want in that drop-down menu, even if it doesn’t show and then login as normal.

@dingus Can’t you just type an instance in manually? Haven’t tried it myself since I don’t have an account in an instance that’s not listed but I could at least enter stuff manually.

You can, it just isn’t necessarily obvious at first. Typing also filters the suggested instances list, so it seems like a search box instead of a text input.

I believe there’s a Github PR addressing this, they are adding many other instances that have more than 100 daily active users, so, next update possibly?
