A handful of companies monopolise the web, with unprecedented access to our data. But there are many more ethical – and often distinctively European – alternatives

An even more private (but still free and equally effective) version of Firefox is LibreWolf, which was developed by Codeberg, a German software nonprofit.

Wait until they find out about the programming team GitHub - that group has developed an astounding amount of projects.

It’s a good article to introduce non-tech people to alternatives, error(s?) aside.

This is a funny mistake to make, but after looking around on their website, I have genuinely no idea what group to attribute the project to. There’s no name in the privacy disclaimer. You can attribute it to the people that developed it, but that seems almost tautological… And perhaps, if they’re privacy enthusiasts too, they’d rather not be named and attributed to a location.

If I wasn’t aware of GitHub let alone its alternatives, I’d assume Codeberg was the group responsible for the project too. It’s mentioned on every page footer, after all

Yeah, it’s really just indicative of the author being unfamiliar with open source projects and their general structure - which is fine.

LibreWolf (as far as I can see) has a fairly standard OSS team structure - project lead/admin, several major contributing coders, a few notable prior contributors, and of course dozens of contributors of small pull requests. They do explain on their homepage that they’re “largely a community-driven project”, so if I was a journo I’d just refer to them as the ‘LibreWolf team’.

Even if the rightoids win in Europe simply reducing the megacorp monopolies by just distributing the share is a great thing

Anyone has recommendations of an EU cloud for sharing data (pro)?

Thanks everyone, I’ll check them all out! It’s for a friends company, they need something like dropbox/wetransfer.

Depends what you mean by data sharing and what exactly you expect to get out of it (E2EE?) but in most case I would also suggest Infomaniak Ksuite. It’s really good and not expensive.

Infomaniak (Swiss) is really nice from a usability perspective and also really affordable. With KSuite they also offer an inbuilt office suite.

Keep away from infomaniak! Easy to register and cheap, all too perfect. But then your account is locked, cannot recover it by phone or alternate email, and they ask for a copy of your identity card, thing that is not needed to sigup! I just wonder, what the hell will they do with it? How can they validate it? Its not a good thing believe me. Someone has your data and you are blackmailed in order to recover access. Well I just send them a fake ID and guess what? 5 minutes later I have access to my account just to retrieve all data and never look back! They need the ID for their customer safety!!! Lol

What you mean sharing data? Like a database? Or files?

I use Hetzner, from Germany. They are good and relatively affordable. But they have increased the prices recently.

You also have Scaleway, from France, also good.

It depends what you want to achieve.
