I really enjoyed the original Amnesia title, especially Soma. I went ahead and played the demo (~1 hour) and this game feels/plays/looks like what I’d expect from a Frictional Games title.
Eventually I realized “the monster” was limited to staying in the “vents”, which made sense as the demo is meant to tease the experience; a very stressful one at that. I’m really not looking forward to being hunted/chased by this thing.
Is the story interesting (or get better)? All I remember is “babby”, so I didn’t give it a chance. It’s currently on sale and I’m debating buying it to give it another go.
It does looks wonderful though.
I’ll admit that I am fairly biased on it; one of my focus areas in college was Arabic folklore and so the story hones in on that itch in a really interesting way for me. I wasn’t super invested in the personal story of Tasi but I think there’s enough “Lovecraft mixing with folklore” elements to make up for it. If you like stories like The Nameless City or at the Mountains of Madness and just the general sense of discovering strange and ancient things then it would probably be worth picking up on sale. I think the biggest thing is that it felt more like a visual novel than a game in a lot of places, so also keep that in mind.
Thanks for letting me know. I’ll give it another chance. A lot of effort went into this game and I don’t want that to go to waste (if that makes sense).
I completely understand that sentiment. I hope you wind up enjoying it! I started the Bunker and it feels a bunch like Penumbra so far which I am extremely happy about. Hopefully it will keep it up as I move along.
I went and finished it :) I made a post with my thoughts, but overall I ended up enjoying it. Thanks for rekindling my interest!
