From Venezuela to Minneapolis, the rapid rollout of deepfakes around major news events is stirring confusion and suspicion about real news.

It’s coming to the threadiverse too. See the recent very popular post in !selfhosted@lemmy.world which is entirely fake but hardly anyone noticed because it aligns with their values. They want it to be true.

Threadiverse is Facebook trying to copyright the fediverse. Fediverse is open sourced and free as in freedom. I think you meant fediverse.

Also, you didnt reference a post, so i can’t verify your claim.

Some people use the term threadiverse to refer to the federated & threaded discussion platforms including Lemmy, Mbin and PieFed.

Here’s the post https://piefed.social/c/selfhosted/p/1647421/self-hosting-in-2025-isn-t-about-privacy-anymore-it-s-about-building-resistance-infrast. I was on my phone earlier so jumping around was not so easy then.

See also https://piefed.social/c/privacy/p/1642848/how-do-we-actually-confront-or-evade-kirkification-and-the-flood-of-ai-slop. It even generated the classic “You’re absolutely right” in a comment on that post.
