misk@piefed.socialOPto Games@sh.itjust.works•Microsoft expands Xbox PC app with Aggregated Gaming Library todayEnglish13·9 hours agoWhat you’re calling Proton is mostly Wine which was developed by countless people unaffiliated with Valve and funded primarily by Codeweavers over past couple of decades.
There’s no lesser evil here, Valve is out there to make money by any means necessary, including marketing online gambling to children. Which is also why feature like this will never be implemented in Steam - they have a monopoly so why would they make it easier for others.

misk@piefed.socialOPto Games@sh.itjust.works•Hades II 1.0 launches on PC, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on September 25, 2025English1·1 day agoI’m not a fan of early access in general but this is one of the cases where it’s done right IMO so let me add some context and corrections:
Supergiant isn’t that big so outsourcing a bit of testing to community isn’t that egregious. Larian did this kind of early access for Baldur’s Gate 3 for similar reasons and with similar results. Studios of this size are in an awkward spot where they don’t have AAA publisher money so they rely on their hard earned reputation.
There was no early access on consoles, it’s strictly Steam/EGS thing even though Sony and Microsoft have similar programs („game preview” etc). Nintendo doesn’t allow early access kind of content on their platform but that’s a moot point.
Supergiant is very upfront about this not being complete game because they don’t want latter parts to be spoiled. They use early access to fine tune gameplay mechanics and based on first game they’re very good at utilising this feedback. When I was younger and had more time I enjoyed participating in beta tests because those games were not figured out yet and could be broken in amusing ways. My guess this combined with Hades being a roguelite makes people okay with giving them money for EA.

It is common for trauma to cause bad eating habits. [2]

„Breaks community rules” is likely coming from Voyager users because the app presents it as a predefined option for report reason. People likely assume that it’s some kind of an integrated reporting flow. This issue was raised recently in Voyager community: https://lemmy.world/post/35221872
misk@piefed.socialto Fediverse@lemmy.world•ActivityPub vs RSS Atom etc. Why Federate instead of aggrigate?English6·3 days agoIf you’re a publisher only then RSS/Atom makes much more sense, especially if you want to retain ownership and control over content you created. If control is not important to you and you want to incorporate social aspect into your website (comments, reactions) then ActivityPub seems like a convenient way to go about it.
One thing that I strongly disagree with author of the blog post is the discoverability aspect. Yes, initial federation kind of sucks but at the same time your readers on Mastodon will be able to boost it and increase your reach.

You do get your games through Steam, don’t you? It’s a fairly safe assumption given that you stated you play on Linux. Valve monopoly there is even stronger than on Windows.
Gaming spaces are full of pointless negativity these days so my „whataboutism” was meant to showcase that much of it is rooted in tribalism, serves no other purpose than to feel good about yourself and it can cut both ways.
There’s plenty of gaming communities in the Fediverse to pick from, you won’t find me in other ones.
