The City of Chestermere is taking the Alberta government to court over a recent investigation into the city’s governance, while accusing a councillor and some former staffers of conspiring against the municipality to trigger the rare probe.
Mayor Jeff Colvin and city administration have repeatedly dismissed the province-ordered municipal inspection — the first of its kind in Alberta since 2018 — as unfair, biased and false, with the mayor once referring to it as “a complete distortion of the facts.” A news release on Thursday states the city has requested a judicial review of the inspection report penned by experienced municipal adviser George Cuff and the 12 binding directives the city was handed by the province.
So what’s the charge here? Conspiracy to commit … an audit?
