Nanaimo plans to amend its zoning bylaws to allow more “missing middle” housing. Fill out the survey and have your say! Survey ends on September 29th, 2023. The survey contains a section for each of the four proposed initiatives and will take approximately 5 to 15 minutes to complete, depending on which initiatives you would like to provide feedback on.
Which is exactly why it should be targeted. I feel so bad for all the kids living up there who have to rely on a car ride to get anywhere, not to mention the poor uni kids who get tricked into living up there without realizing how terrible our bus system is.
I live in the north end my first year at viu and bought a car after 2 months of trying to manage the bus schedule while working. Several of the exchange students my aunts had over the last ten years in the north end have left her place a couple months in because of how terrible the services are. Coming from countries like Germany, Korea, etc where they have amazing transit and bike infrastructure in cities smaller than Nanaimo really outlined to them how terrible this place is if you can’t afford a car. Want to go downtown on a Friday night, better make sure you can afford the $60+ cab ride home from level two.
