Just I think it’s time for us to, ask him a question about his progress in fixing what last update has broken in AI chats.
Nope. To everything. Just let dev work out the problems instead of wasting precious time on answering “questions” like:
“The new AI sucks roll it back right now!!!11111!!!”
“Why are you SO MEAN just give us the old model pweeeease?”
“Why does it take so long, ChatGPT makes updates in seconds!”
“Why do you ignore me when I say just pay 20 people out of your own pocket to get it done RIGHT NOW!”
and so on. I can totally understand why dev doesn’t want to deal with this shit.
Well… Firstly, my question wasn’t like what you are referring to. Second, I don’t think is going to be really hard for dev, to at least notify users of his platform about what actually happens. And third… If we, as users, still unworthy of such information… I think it’s better for us to move on then…
Move on then.
I don’t understand the whining and complaining of some users. The service is completely free and, for the most part, really cleverly designed. I’ve learned a lot while playing around with it—for FREE—and I’m really grateful for that.
I believe @[email protected] is saying the same thing you are…only a bit more passionately 😁
Uhm, yes, got a little carried away. But, well, I think everyone knows why by now 😅 Thanks!
Disclaimer: I think Dev has all rights to do anything with his project. Even things that he was promised not to do (it’s not this case, it’s just I’m saying about rights).
I wonder, though, why not roll model back if it failed (never seen anyone say that new model is good)? As he was written early, new model cost MORE to run, so he can both save money and keep those who liked old model happy (and I’m not only about complainers. Silent people who agree about Dev’s rights, who liked previous model, will be happy too.). And secondly, it would be even better to give option to switch between models. So if someone like old model, that cost less, use less resources of the Dev.
Maybe I don’t understand something, maybe I’m stupid (lmao. Stupidity is in my nick), but I see this as win-win.
Also he can use more ads and start accepting donations. And with more satisfied users, it will be more profitable/less expensive, to run the service.
Because it didn’t fail yet, it’s still a work in progress. And there were a LOT of people who complained about the old model. I suggest you take a look at the perchance commutinty on reddit, there are a lot more people than here, but even on lemmy you can see it when you take a closer look, for example: https://lemmy.world/post/36459439 atm, 3 up votes, 7 down votes. People do like the new model when it doesn’t have hiccups due to finetuning the settings.
About letting people switch, I already mentioned it in a much older post: dev would have to set up the infrastructure first, which would probably take a lot of time. Maybe dev rather use this extra time to work on the new model. After all, it’s already almost 2 months and you can see how people get impatient bc they don’t understand how much workload this is for a single person.
As for the ads, dev deliberately chose to make them as minimal as possible to make it as user-friendly as possible. If ads get more invasive, people start to use adblock, too. IMO, perchance is a gift by dev to us, and maybe dev even takes pride in giving it completely free. That’s the only explanation I can imagine why dev doesn’t take donations, bc many people mentioned they’d love to. But even with such a big heart, dev faces limits in resources as time and money (and probably energy), that’s why we don’t get the old model.
Oh, also, to put it very simple: new model takes space, and space costs money. But the old model takes space, too, even when it’s less. So running both takes much, much more space and much, much more money.
Questions aren’t stupid. Blindly throwing a tantrum because you don’t get your way is (not you). The problem is that the angry voices tend to be the loudest. People rarely provide positive and uplifting feedback. They believe that if things are going well there is no reason to say a word. Anyway just something to think about.
Well, I got your point. To know whether much of users like old model better then new or not, a vote can be made.
@[email protected] previously, those topics was getting more upvotes than downvotes. Maybe unsatisfied people just left?
And about using. Well, maybe Dev don’t want to take donations and put more ads. But for some other reason it looks like Dev is interested in more users rather than less. (The less users is very simply achievable. Just use what you did for yourself.)
Also about space… It may be a reason, if he has single video card. Then, frequently loading different models on card would consume time. That’s will be costly in time. Or have constantly loaded in GPU RAM. Then it’s costly.
But if he is running an array of GPU’s anyway… well, I still think that by providing less consuming model’s one can save resources.
If you are saying that sas hdd is costly. So costly that another, how much, 16 gigs, is really much for it, then actually I disagree.
