I’ve got a post in my community that was posted by mistake. This one:

https://lemmy.world/post/4989402

It was actually me that posted it from my Mastodon account.

I can’t see a way to delete or hide it from the community.

The kebab menu only has the following items:

  • Create report
  • Block user
  • Lock
  • Community pin

I’ve tried reporting the post and it appears on the report page, but I don’t seem to be able to do anything with it other than clicking “resolve report”.

You can post to Lemmy communities directly from Mastodon (they’re both based on ActivityPub). You first follow the Lemmy community in Mastodon, then create a post that mentions the handle for the community (in this case, @[email protected]). The first line of the post becomes the title of the Lemmy post and subsequent lines the body. A little rainbow fediverse icon is displayed on posts that have been federated in from outside of Lemmy.

It works quite well, but there are a few quirks. You can’t attach more than one image, for example, and you can’t create URL posts. But replies work both ways, and if you favourite the post in Mastodon, it counts as an upvote. It’s pretty neat

But it seems that posts that arrive via Mastodon can’t be moderated? This could be hugely problematic. I mean, posts coming from Mastodon that can’t be deleted - what could possibly go wrong? 😅

Looks like you can block users and instances, but that’s not helpful when someone creates a post in error like I did. It’s an easy mistake to make: you just mention the Lemmy community’s handle.

This is really cool, thanks for detailing that out for me. I’ve found something that might help when messing about with it. If you delete the Mastodon post it’s reflected on Lemmy and will be removed. You might still see it as the mod (will have a trash can next to it). Of course that doesn’t help when someone else does, but at least you can remove it for your particular case.

Ah, thanks. Yes, deleting it in Mastodon did the trick. It’s still far from ideal having no way of hiding/deleting posts from Mastodon other than asking the OP to delete it. This seems like a bit of a gaping security/abuse/moderation hole, no? I’m guessing admins can still delete stuff?

Absolutely agree, that could turn into a moderation nightmare if someone wanted to abuse it. Do you know if there’s an issue for this on GitHub?

did a little experiment on a low-user count community I made. mastodon post https://mstdn.party/@m3t00/111419530632049425

" Subject Text maybe @[email protected]

    post from mastodon "

    lemmy post https://midwest.social/post/5499353

    has mod options

Feel free to post from any mastodon account.

added pic becomes thumbnail and pic on lemmy. hmm, could cause headaches

lol that warning about log in or register, obviously not

Remove post worked but I didn’t test other mod options

Comment from lemmy makes a reply on mastodon.

thinking about trying from firefish fully expecting similar results.

Not sure. Depends a lot on context. menu changes depending on how you got there. From the report mailbox links often land me on the poster’s instance not logged in. Confusing for sure. Try clicking on the group page link. clicking on the post title works, iirc

might be different since poster is also a mod. my example was from a non-member mastodon account. same name different instance

YOU are not a mod btw! “Hallenberg” is. Not you. You probably transfered your ownership to him and did not thought about it. With no mod perms you will not have any mod actions or user action.
