This is something that I have been saying for a long time now. I, from the very bottom of my heart, believe that the moment Trump dies, MAGA will die with him.

Why? It’s simple really, movements generally need to be practical, coherent, and flexible to last a long time. MAGA has none of these traits. MAGA currently stands for nothing. As a movement it has no values, no platform, no morals, and no leadership outside of Trump. Everything in the movement starts and stops with Trump. Whatever he says goes no matter how insane, nonsensical, or contradictory. Trump is the movement.

It wasn’t always this way, back during his first term, MAGA did have some ideological diversity that forced the movement to have internal discourse which kept it somewhat balanced. There were evangelists, libertarians, fiscal conservatives, moderate Republicans, and so on. However, Trump has purged them all. In fact, he has purged everything and anything capable of independent thought leaving only blind loyalists and slimy opportunists.

Without Trump acting as their de facto prophet, these yes men will immediately leech on to the first self proclaimed successor they see. MAGA will fracture and split, and the different factions will spend most of their time fighting each other. This will lead MAGA to become ineffective, and because of this, it will fade into irrelevancy with time.

There is a huge apparatus of rich mega-assholes supporting him, they are not going to disappear or give up control. The states will remain gerrymandered beyond recognition, the next election (if there is one) will be suspect as hell, the supreme court will remain fucked, and the voting base will elect whatever scum of the earth is put in front of them to “own the libs, for trump!”

Yeah, MAGA is just an expression of the things set in motion by the Powell Memo (in some ways Trump hijacked that infrastructure for his own profit instead of sharing amongst the other sponsors of that plot). All those conservatives in the courts and in safe red districts will just stay where they are and spin up some new ‘movement’ like the Tea Party before it.

Conservatives can easily be convinced to believe the opposite of what they believed just a few years ago, look at how they turned in George W Bush basically effortlessly.

Sure, all their interests align, except for who gets to be the man on the throne. None of the oligarchs wanted Trump to be the leader, he is way too volatile, stupid and unpredictable, and they did try to get rid of him. The problem for them is that he has their voterbase locked down on account of the personal cult. All of the candidates they have tried running against him failed, because the cultists naturally just want their cult leader.

The interesting thing is how that cultist voterbase will react when he dies. There will be lots of Republican candidates attempting to gain the throne. A frightening prospect is that the cultists will transfer their allegiance to Donny Jr., simply because he is the son of their cult leader. But it is not a given. And that infighting may well break the complete stranglehold they have over the US. But again, that is far from given, because as you said, it is powerful vested interests we are talking about here, who basically all want the same thing (unlimited grifting for oligarchs, based on a layer of bigotry).

So there is always the chance that they will once more settle with whomever the cultists adheres themselves to, for the greater good of grifting, just like they eventually did with Trump.

I agree with you, but they are also working their asses off to create a structure that survive beyond Trump.

Thing like the “We’re turning Kirk into our Reishtag fire” rally are designed to create a structure that can survive beyond Trump. The longer Trump keeps kicking the more resilient to collapse they’ll be.

I agree with you. Donald Trump was their best candidate. They may have had Charlie Kirk in 10 years. Now they have Ted Cruz, JD Vance, and the lift boots guy from Florida.

Hell, even MTG is already dippin’.

I doubt it. They’ll turn him into a Saint, and worship him like Jesus. There won’t even be a limit to how crazy they’ll get, since they can just make up whatever weird shit they want about him, once he’s gone.

What would replace it? It will be another USA but somehow changed and radicalized from what it has been through.

Ugh. I was at the Washington memorial and a few vets in wheelchairs were actively spitting on anyone remotely asian looking. Now imagine a whole country of them. Just angry people dealing with PTSD.

You say they have no coherent platform but that seems obviously false to me. Fear, anger, hatred, and bigotry have always been what binds maga together.

I’m not sure. MAGA will take a great hit, but I’m not sure if it will be their collapse. They’re probably more prepared than you think.

Trump doesn’t really have his own politics. He’s just surrounded by project 2025 people who channel their politics through him. They’re not exactly going to lose a political visionary.

There probably won’t be any election anytime soon either. I believe MAGA will slowly but surely declare Democrats a terrorist group, and therefore claim that elections are impossible as long Democrats continue to interfere the elections.

True, but I don’t expect that to happen until the 2030’s.

I expect the Putin-Trump regime ( or whomever it is who carries-on their regimes, if they-the-individuals drop ), to continue until 2032-ish.

Humankind’s collective-unconscious has invested immensely in this, for centuries, & isn’t going to let it go, until it’s “done” with it.

    Same as any unconscious-mind addiction.

Agreed. The cult cannot survive the loss of the leader. None ever has.

Only looking at economics, shit will continue downhill. Who will they blame? Not Trump, that’s certain. Whoever tries to step in his shoes will get burned to the ground. MY guy was great! THIS guy is the problem!

I laugh thinking about the behind-the-scenes scrambling. Trump’s visibly dying, of dementia or heart issues, whatever, he’s dying. It’ll take longer than most think, unless he strokes out, but he’s on the clock. I can hear the panic all the way from Washington.

OTOH, I misjudged the competency of the 2025 crowd. They got into action and have moved astonishingly fast. FFS, they just made an executive order than an ethereal organization is now deemed “terrorist”. That has real legal weight, 1st Amendment be damned. At least I made the choice to exercise my 2nd Amendment right. Hope you did. I’ll back you, but I’m one man.

There will be a power vacuum for sure. Will it fall? Maybe not. Napoleon’s son and grandson lasted a good while. People still say hail Caesar. Temujin’s legacy lasted 70 years.

A brand with recognition is hard to dislodge.
