“Norton is pretty much amplifying energy consumption worldwide, costing their customers more in electricity use than the customer makes on the mining, yet allowing Norton to make a ton of profit,” tweeted security researcher Chris Vickery. “It’s disgusting, gross, and brand-suicide.”

The only AV you should even use is Malwarebytes for the occasional on demand scans (because Windows Defender is useless) and learn common sense and good basic practices to make exploitations impossible to happen in the first place.

Antivirus industry has a lot of bad actors at this point. Even Avira fell to the jaws of death.

Honestly for day to day security windows defender has gotten pretty good. As long as standard caution is taken online it filters out a pretty good chunk of bad things. Won’t protect someone who clicks every flashing ad though.

On a slightly off topic note, I trust win defender the most on a moral standpoint of the common AV names because they have the least financial gain from viruses and malware existing, and actually have money to lose due to potentially losing Windows users.

I do agree that Malwarebytes is likely the way to go though, it’s been a solid AV for as long as I’ve known about it and afaik hasn’t had much or any of the shady stuff others have.
