This is like opposite of Itachi in Naruto. In Naruto, the story does everything it can do to justify genocide and try to make Itachi sympathetic. One Piece, the world government is so comically evil with every reveal and the navy just kind of just goes with the flow. Like damn Garp and every admiral. I don’t think there’s anyway to make them all just come off as supremely stupid and complicit. Same with Harald

Garp is (maybe soon to be was) one of my favorite characters (second only to luffy), and this does not look good for him.

On thee other hand, rocks, while no saint (kuma), is coming out surprisingly great (kinda like whitebeard - the family man).

Honestly! Garp really needs more backstory explaining his motifs and why he stayed with the marine for so long. Was he a mole? Or trying to sabotage the marines from the inside? I hope we get more Info when we get back to the Koby plot line.

I think to compare naruto and one piece, it should be like Madara vs Celestial Dragon/5 Elders/Im. Navy is so low down the chain of command they’re merely following order, and nuance usually are given to them and the pirate. It’s gonna be boring to suddenly give nuance to the villain tbh.

Okay okay, i know very unlikely but wouldn’t it be kinda funny if Shanks mother survived, went with Dragon and later gave birth to Luffy? A reveal 30 years after the two very first character’s introduction that they were half-siblings all along without any of the two being aware.
