Please, no!
My excitement level for this announcement:
It’s possible, or perhaps likely, that Apple will obtain exclusive rights to F1 streaming in the US and therefore withhold access from F1 TV.
Tim Apple, you better not. F1TV is excellent.
I’m in the UK where some other old bastards own the rights. I have to VPN from Belgium/Netherlands (fastest locations) to use my F1TV subscription, which I have to pay for via Google Pay because it obfuscates where my bank is located (they’ll refuse payment if they know I pay from a UK bank account).
Look forward to having your F1TV experience absolutely ruined! 👌 I’ve found that my streaming likes to buffer just before T1 on about 90% of races.
Always wondered how well this works, it always seemed a bit risky to me since it could just stop working and your money is wasted. I never usually watch the races live, otherwise I might have given this a try.
It’s worked for me since the start of the 2022 season so it’s fairly reliable, and the back catalogue is worth it for me to pay anyway, but yeah it’s not as stress-free as I’d like 😂
Unless Liberty is straight up stupid, they won’t let Apple put F1 entirely behind a season pass paywall (not a prediction, they could very well be that stupid). F1 has worked a very long time to build the popularity they have in the US. To get it and immediately alienate what fans they’ve managed to get would be the pinnacle of enshittificaton. Personally, i hope don’t hire Buxton to host their coverage.
Buxton is commentating IndyCar for FOX.
Liberty didn’t build the US audience for fun. They are expecting a return on the investment. With 3+2 GPs in market, they are expecting a big return.
@lazycouchpotato the whole streaming rights system is so deeply broken at the moment, situations like this just shouldn’t be possible
Do y’all think it’ll still be on cable or completely exclusive to apple Tv?
If he MLS soccer arrangement is any indication it’ll be completely behind a premium level subscription with one or two race day events on ABC. I’d bet Monaco and Austin.
