So I have bad habits of doing in app purchases because I have a pihole that blocks the ads, so I cannot use the commercials to get power ups or whatever. I do not want to pay Apple for things so I needed to find a way to help me stop paying Apple for things. I wanted to originally fine the address to just block payments to apple from through my pihole, after reading things I found that this would probably block updates and all that and that is not a good thing. So I ended up blocking payments as if I were a freakin child on the devices, I guess I can still do it with the password maybe? Feels a little demeaning but I need to stop myself and making it harder for me to buy power ups or whatever is a good thing.
I also think there will be secrete DST charges, of greater then the 5% or whatever it is, added to in app purchases come the first. The big tech companies will not be happy that they have to pay a retro active sales tax.
Don’t play stupid mobile ‘games’
The only ones worth playing have an upfront price and no in app transactions
to get power ups
Find less stupid games.
Power ups, was just the best description for things in game currency and stuff like that.
They got you. A great example for a phone game that is good is Crashlands. There still are some phone games that are not f2p.
Yes I know they have gotten me, but no more! Adding just one extra step will fix it for me (I hope). I wanted to block the whole App Store first but I do need updates and I have started to do things with my home lab like self hosting.
Push for the Canadian government to force Apple to open up iOS to outside stores and consider switching to Graphene OS / Ubuntu Touch / Postmarket OS for your next phone.
I so want to switch my os and eventually my hardware, it is however difficult with my family mostly being on iOS.
Localsend also works on IOS for your Airdrop replacement and RCS is being developed for linux phones.
I am thinking more about FaceTime with my Grandmother, someone who is not going to be able to make the switch. RCS and airdrop are the least of my concerns.
Is ubuntu touch actual usable and has “essential” apps (e.g. banking)?
I wouldn’t say UT has banking apps, gps and the cellular features yet as the project needs to be built up further.
Does Netflix Gaming exist in Canada?
No idea, I stopped using Netflix years ago.
I use in-app purchases almost daily.
I mean about 85% of what I buy is purchased online. Via app(s).
I used to, but then I got rid of Amazon, most of my Apple services, I got rid of Disney+, I canceled a bunch of other services I do not remember. I have a pihole, and I stopped using Google services a few years ago (minus youtube) so the Google knows next to nothing about me so the ads started getting really weird so I got youtube premium, I got rid of youtube premium in January but then I started seeing weird commercials again it was not cool. When Andor returned I started jonesing to see it, but I was not going to sign up for Disney+ again after about 3 weeks of trying to write scripts to automatically download it I found the *arr apps to schedule and download torrents. Once I got over my anti pirating stuff I found Unwatched to get around the YouTube ads.
I’ve never had Amazon. Never had Apple anything. Never had Disney services of any kind. Dropped Google stuff years ago (though I watch Youtube videos with a bunch of anti-ad stuff my SO set up for me). I do, however, pirate like crazy.
Of course it’s easier for me. I don’t live in North America or Europe. Very easy to avoid this stuff here.
