Palworld confirms ‘disappointing’ game changes forced by Pokémon lawsuit
Nintendo and The Pokémon Company filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair in Japan last year, alleging that Palworld infringes on three patents that are related to monster catching gameplay. On Thursday, Pocketpair confirmed it had previously patched out the ability to summon Pals via ‘Pal Spheres’ due to the legal action. 🖋️🤖

End of 10 is a campaign to move people over to Linux with Windows 10 support ending
The End of 10 campaign has stepped in to get events sorted, and to help more people get into Linux. They list some pretty standard reasons for trying Linux like it being cheaper, there’s no adverts, you having more control and so on. And hey, with Fedora 42 out now that has KDE Plasma being promoted to a flagship edition status, it’s never been a better time to try it out. 🖋️🤖

The SteamOS era is imminent: Valve adds a new compatibility rating for games that’ll run on ‘any device that’s not a Steam Deck’
Valve will start rating games on their compatibility with third-party devices. The rating system will serve the same purpose as the compatibility details on iOS and Android app store pages. Valve expects to give the stamp of approval to over 18,000 Steam games to start with, and will include this rating on all the games it checks for Steam Deck compatibility going forward. 🖋️🤖

Colony building sim Mountaincore is now free to play and open source
A complicated history for this one, with the developer Rocket Jump Technology no longer existing as a business. The previous iteration of the game named King under the Mountain went open source back in January 2024, and now what was to be the big revamp is also open source. The publisher eventually backed out, but allowed the developer to continue with the funded work and still release it. Having both versions of the game now open source is a great outcome though, another big project for people to learn from and perhaps continue elsewhere. Hope: A Sky Full of Ghosts on Steam
About This GameHope: A Sky Full of Ghosts is a sci-fi point-and-click adventure about hopelessness and the people you think you know. You are Agatha Hope, captain of a disjointed crew aboard a stolen spaceship. Your decisions and wits will decide the course of the mission, your relationship with the crew and whether you survive or not. It blends the spirit of old-school point-and-click games with a deep narrative full of character and secrets. You will get to know your crew through dialogue options, fix the prototype ship through puzzles and minigames and discover its secrets while revealing your crew’s motivations. 🖊️️🤖

12. 💬 Playing multiplayer titles is the best way to involuntarily become a Patient Gamer (direct link) (👍9 👎4)
from Patient Gamers ([email protected])
From 2008-2025, I mostly played multiplayer games like Tibia, Runescape, CS, etc. Barely touched GTA1,2,4,5 (finished 3/SA). Played 30 mins in Skyrim, 2-3h in Witcher 3 (1/2 unfinished). HalfLife waits. Many singleplayer classics remain untouched—multiplayer games “help” in this regard. 🖍🤖

Pushing Buttons: Is there even any point in making more powerful games consoles?
Last week, my favoured gaming news site, VGC, asked former US PlayStation boss Shawn Layden whether he thought the pursuit of more powerful consoles was still the way to go for the video games industry. I am the least technically minded games journalist I know, and have often felt as if I was in the minority. To me, games started looking pretty great about 15 years ago and most of the improvement I’ve seen since then has felt incremental. The chief technological innovation of the last 15 years in games has been VR, and that turned out to have niche appeal. Also, I hear the Guardian has a very good online games section – you should check it out some time. 🖊️️🤖
