It needs to become more common to close trails, campgrounds, parks, etc during the tinder-dry wildfire season. BC has seen unfathomable amounts of fires this year including several within a few KM of major cities. Many have been human caused.

Also the punishment for lighting fires needs to increase tenfold. I think I saw a sign saying it was a $500 fine if you are caught with a campfire. That is pathetic for something that can spiral out of control and literally destroy an entire town. Violating a fire ban should get you time behind bars, not a fine that is as much a couple hefty grocery bills.

Closing campgrounds might just push people to seek more remote areas to camp in and be harder to keep an eye on to make sure they aren’t having campfires.

Campgrounds keep people relatively contained in designated areas where we can focus our attention when it’s needed.
