Sometimes you just have to take pride in your province or territory and show off a little! Musicians in Canada come from all walks of life, from rough upbringing to young celebrity, or from those born in small rural towns to those who were born elsewhere and came here for a better life.

That said, which musicians had their start in your province or territory that you’re proud to say “they’re from here!”?

From Windsor, Ontario. The Tea Party comes from Windsor. I had no idea they came from where I grew up until I searched online for bands from Windsor for this post!

The Sheepdogs are from Saskatchewan. I don’t really know their music that well, but they were on the cover of Rolling Stone so they must be a big deal, lol.

And the Northern Pikes are from SK too. One of the former members of which frequents the business I work at, which is cool… A (musician)coworker always points him out.

Reading “The Sheepdogs” instantly started playing “I don’t know” in my head.

Replying to my own posts always feels weird, but for me being from Alberta, the easy answer here is Tegan and Sara.

You’d probably enjoy “All Hell For A Basement” by Big Sugar, if you haven’t already heard it before. Very catchy and unique.

I had no idea Tegan and Sara were from Alberta.

You can also claim Paul Brandt as a big name Albertan singer. Whether or not he’s still producing music is another question. I just remember him being a big deal in the mid 2000s.
