Commercial “Journalist” needs to be held to a higher standard.
They should voluntarily do a retraction article of the same duration in the same time slot explaining exactly how they screwed up and how they will restore their integrity in the future.
If they don’t, the industry regulator needs to call them out on it.
There really should be some sort of industrial standard for journalism. Like a lawyer needs to pass the bar exam and be in good standing or be disbarred, a journalist should have to be licensed or recognized and if they are shown to be spreading falsehoods or doing other unethical things have their license revoked.
Which isn’t even a slap on the wrist.
For modern commercial journalism, being called out on MediaWatch is a promotional opportunity! “Look how much we can corrupt reality, advertise with us”.
