Are there any good MMORPG games natively run on Linux?
Stop caring about native. It seriously just doesn’t matter anymore.
XIV Launcher is the easiest way to get FF XIV running, plus it can link to your phone to almost automatically handle OTP (no typing it in, your phone just sends the code over your local network), but you could also just install the trial inside Steam, should work fine.

I got banned two times for playing on Linux with FFXIV
Gaben is also an FF XIV player, and Proton always gets a hotfix like a day after anything breaks (usually it’s the launcher).
If bans from playing on Linux (or at least the deck) were common there’d be a lot more info about it like there is for other games. Just don’t cheat or use sketchy mods. I’ve only played on Linux (all AMD tbf, both desktop and steam deck, so the drivers are good) and have never had a problem.
I guess it was implied, but I didn’t use cheats. After a few times playing, I always got banned for whatever reason
I ran savages for over a year before burning out, all on Linux, never banned. YMMV

Agreed, Proton and other alternatives work great!
Again not natively unfortunately, but Guild Wars 2 runs pretty well, even on the steam deck!
The base game is free to play, so no problem in testing it.

Also, in my experience, proton runs most things just as well if not better than native Linux games.
Yes, I have logged more than 14000 hours in GuildWars2, mostly in WvW maps and since it started playing well on Proton I never touched Windows anymore.

I don’t know about natively, but I’ve played both FFXIV and EVE Online in Linux in the past, and they ran well, but it’s been a little bit.

Project gorgon as others have said is the first native game that comes to mind. Guild wars 2 runs great on proton and that’s my recommendation. FF14 is great if you don’t mind the subscription and can get through the vanilla campaign, which is a massive slog and a major setback in the quality of the game IMO. Guild wars 2 is a similar situation in that it’s a slog for the personal story, but after that it picks up and that’s only like 40% of the vanilla campaign as opposed to the whole vanilla campaign of FF14. The FF14 fanboys don’t want to talk about the vanilla campaign and for good reason, it sucks, it’s just not fun. The game doesn’t get good until heavensward.
just want to add, I personally thought heavensward was just alright, stormbringer was a step backwards, but Holy Hell Shadowbringers and Endwalker stand out as some of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had.
Find a group and play with them, having a 4 man party through the whole game is what kept me going. The free trial lets you touch the first extreme trials which are some pretty good content in my opinion.

Yup. It’s one of the only native ones I can come up with. However with proton/wine, does it really matter?
I guess it doesn’t matter if just getting it working is the goal and proton/wine does that. Myself I want my games to be open source, and so not working on Linux is likely just be a case of the game not being popular enough for a kind soul to get it working.
How about Runescape
The OSRS client RuneLite is Linux native, open source, and Jagex (the developer) approved

OSRS is native when using Runelite. Unfortunately, Jagex is soon making its launcher the only way to sign in and they refuse to make a version for Linux. Heard it works fine through wine though.
WoW still runs great under Wine.
Not really a mmorpg, but you really should try Baldur’s gate 3, runs great on linux

Funny enough the DirectX version is stable on Proton but there are still a few crashes in Vulkan mode.
Am I the only one who crashes every other cutscene and every 30 minutes of gameplay?
Are you running it on X11 or Vulkan. Lots of people reported crashes on Vulkan, seems to work fine with X11 on GTX 1660 for me, not a crash.
Not native but Palia is one that recently released and is getting a ton of love. It runs on Linux using lutris-GE-Proton8-13
I have played at least Albion Online and Wakfu that run natively without any trouble, and work quite great. Lots of other run quite great using Steam compatibility layer or Lutris.
I’m one of the 5 poor sobs who still plays darkorbit, and someone on github made a linux native launcher available as an appimage. I don’t recommend playing it though, because aside from the community becoming smaller and smaller, the game also runs like ass even on a high end system (not because of the unofficial app, but because of the game itself), and it has this issue with it taking up more and more ram over time, and it has been like that for over a decade now. Also a lot of server issues lately. The devs don’t seem very interested in improving the game.
I’ve played several on Ubuntu and do agree that Albion and Guild Wars 2 both play great and are a lot of fun
Not sure how good it is but Ryzom is Linux native and open source. I’ll be checking it out soon
The universe is interesting, but the quality sucks. Some interesting concept, that’s all.
