I think the argument being made here is that Germans never stopped being Nazis, which is patently absurd.
Yeah that dude is way out of line.
PTB personally, it’s documented that Nazis were kept on positions of power in Germany because it was helpful to the Marshall Plan to rebuild Germany to stop the spread of Soviet influence.

From my perspective, the shift towards (far) right politics and populism we experience in Germany is a phenomenom that we see across large parts of Europe and has nothing to do with WW2 nazis still being there. Maybe there are parallels but that ideology re-grew pretty much from scratch.
It didn’t regrow from scratch, it never left. Almost all the large German corporations in existence today are still run by the same families that not only supported the Nazis, but were active members of the Nazi party.
One of the most vocal advocates of fascism in Italy is literally Mussolini’s granddaughter.

Wealthy people with power being greedy and striving for more is not a proof that facism is some kind of trait burnt into the ‘German genes’. That’s rather an issue of capitalism than the nation you were born in. In the USA facism is equally on the rise as in Germany (if not worse). Still, that’s not because the entire population has always been Nazis and slave holders. It’s because a wealthy minority abuses their power to spread propaganda.
You’re totally right, except that’s not the argument I made. As far as straw men go, it’s absolutely absurd, and you should be embarrassed for having tried that.
TBH I confused you with OP who argued Germans (so all of them) never stopped being Nazis but from my perspective also your argument without the context of the first post kind of implies to me that just because someone’s ancestors used to be nazis, and they are still involved in their ancestors’ corporations, that they must be Nazis too.

That’s also not what I said. I said almost all of those families were active members of the Nazi party. In fact, some of the billionaires that control or did control massive and popular German corporations not only benefited from forced labor sourced from Nazi concentration camps, but were members of the SS themselves.
So no, while being rich doesn’t make you a fascist in and of itself, being a multi-generational Nazi family, that profited from the Third Reich, used Jewish slaves, actively took part in the “final solution to the Jewish problem”, and has taken steps to hide that past, does make you a fascist. Some of the German billionaires that are alive and running these corporations today have nothing but praise for their fathers who were alive and active Nazis during WW2.
I’m not trying to argue for the point or against it (it’s not even my comment), but the mod’s objection being “You can’t call a whole nation Nazi” when Nazi Germany was literally a Nazi nation was funny.
Even during WW2 not the whole nation was purely Nazis. The majority was brainwashed and following the cult, yes. But even during its highest peak of popularity, there were always resisting forces against the regime. Right now facism and populism are on the rise again but if you ask me a lot of that is caused by (presumably Russian) troll armys on social media.
