Well, relatively. There was reason for cautious optimism and it’s still likely an upgrade for people in Syria even though not as much as one could hope.
It sucks that relatively moderate politician turns out to be an autocrat again. How to build trust in this environment?
If you are referring to the interim president, than the opposite is true. He was only pretending to be a moderate.
