I think of it this way. A cave dweller could figure out which rock would make the best blade; then shape a blade from that rock; then go out into the wilderness with no directions to hunt dangerous prey; then stalk and kill a wild animal; then safely return through those unmarked woods; then create a fire to cook the food.

I know modern folks who have cut themselves opening a can of soda and gotten lost on a highway with three GPS systems to guide them.

Humans can be incredibly resourceful if they fucking try.

I don’t know if it’s learned helplessness, complete ignorance, entitlement, narcissism, or some combination therein…but man, it bugs me when people can’t figure out a simple problem.

“Learned helplessness” is a good way to describe it. We keep people in bubble wrap until they are 21 and then suddenly expect them to be fully functional adults.

There can be no progress without struggle, and we make it hard for people to grow when we deny them the chance to make mistakes and get hurt.

I think a big issue is that in the cave dweller scenario, there were likely other cave dwellers to teach them how to hunt (and potentially safely opening cromagnon brand rock soda cans?)

Now, getting lost with a gps is one thing, but all the other wild stuff you see on the road is definitely the result of someone not teaching someone else the important things somewhere down the road (figuratively and literally)

Reject the fomo, switch off the inputs every now and again and just chill!
