#macOS (or #Apple in general) is honestly no less annoying in terms of forcing updates upon their users than #Microsoft and #Windows.

My Mac has never decided to reboot in the middle of a business presentation, and always allows me to postpone until after hours. Same with my phone. Windows on the other hand sometimes makes me wait 10 minutes when I boot it to do stuff. Huge pain, way worse.

@[email protected] true, but as a Linux user, I find macOS just as annoying lol. Referencing the fact that every time I open my Mac I have to be faced with that notification telling me to update, a notification that I cannot even dismiss (like you normally could with other notifs) besides telling it to try doing so “tonight” lol.

Yeah I mean a nag message is a little annoying- it often involves zero day patches though. You can simply turn off automatic updates though, problem solved. That problem anyway.

I drive macOS on my hardware and Linux in the cloud- for me, they’re BFFs. I want headless Linux on my server and aqua on my desk. All my shell scripts work the same on both, my terminals act the same on both, etc. it’s just personal preference, I think everyone should be able to optimize their workflow in a way that works best for them- for me, the first class hardware and software support on apple’s m series chips is so worth it- but I also run hundreds of Linux workloads!

The only one I really can’t stand is windows- everything is difficult and clumsy, and slow. Don’t get me started with people trying to use windows machines as auto-scale domain joined servers in the cloud, what a mess.

@[email protected] I do have them turned off - which seems to be the reason why I find these things deciding to annoy me more and more lol (for good reason I’m sure, but still haha). It’s the same behaviour on iPhones too that haven’t been updated in a long time.

Linux works perfectly for me for years now, which I know is a privilege. I’ve always gone with Macs tho since forever when it comes to laptops cos no other laptops compare. I’d love to have my M1 Mac to be on Linux, but I don’t think it’s ready yet. My old Macs all run Linux perfectly smoothly and made them really pleasant and snappy to use (while remaining just as pretty as macOS) rather than just serviceable, despite their old hardware.

and yea screw Windows - the thing is literally not even good (or needed) at anything anymore for a long while now, not even gaming.
