It’s because these are Karens. They are not Chinese nor China-founded guerilla groups. The ones you think of are MNDAA or UWSA in Shan State. Karens are Christians (converted to Christianity after British take over in the 19th century) who were loyal to the British and formed the biggest native ethnic core of the British police and military in Burma in British colonial times (others were Indians/South Asians) who suffered backlash from Bamars during the war for independence.
