The 1% vs 99% discourse was introduced during the great recession, and while it’s a nice quick shorthand, the literal figure of 1% really does spread out the blame more than it should. It’s actually a much smaller percentage of people who are sucking up so many resources and who are the biggest cause of misery on Earth. That just makes the fact that we’re forced to cater to them even more striking.
