Someone needs to train audiences to stop using Facebook, and come to think of it it’s about time the Canadian news media did its part to help undo the damage it’s done.

Sadly, it’s still “download our app” that is the dominant message even at the CBC which ought to know better. If you want CBC news, other than looking for it here you might go to their web site (https://www.cbc.ca/lite/news) subscribe to their rss feeds (https://www.cbc.ca/rss/) or follow them on mastodon (https://mstdn.ca/@cbc_top_stories). As people get used to it, perhaps C-18 will have done some good after all.

I’ve just seen that the story ends with a “follow @rebeccazandberg on Twitter.” They’ll never learn, will they.

“I think the reason that they’re being so much more brutal to Canada is they’re afraid that Canada will show the United States a path forward,” said former Facebook employee-turned-whistleblower Frances Haugen in an interview with CBC’s The Sunday Magazine.

I think this can’t be understated. They folded to Australia and now they’re trying to make a stand to stop this sort of thing from happening in other places. But ultimately they are businesses out to make money. If we stand our ground we can have them make their money on our terms.
