    Yes

And fines if the vehicle goes over the markings.

My only concern is that this could contribute to unnecessarily large cars becoming a status symbol, since one could express their wealth by affording the inconvenience of owning one.

Instead, I’d like cities to outright ban cars that exceed certain dimensions. Kind of like a LEZ

If fines seem a little too much like “the rich will just pay their way out of them”, then penalty points on the driving licence would affect everyone equally.

To avoid oversized cars becoming a status/dominance symbol, there should be inconveniences they can’t buy their way out of, like special oversized parking bays (possibly alongside those for delivery vehicles) that aren’t in a central or prestigious location. Of course, we live in a free market, which means that the rich are overwhelmingly likely to end up having a roadyacht marina at the front of every desirable location, like first class seats in an airliner.

We do already get fines for going over the lines, and that our local council was caught spots smaller than the government standards just to fine drivers as a money making initiative.

I would like LEZ to expand, and other restrictions to come into place, but we have absolutely no public transport here so we really need it to be a two prong change to make it work otherwise it’ll just lead to abuse of those who can’t afford it

“I disagree because I have a child so I do have to have a bigger car,” she says. “My mother is really old. If she needs a GP appointment or dentist, I have to take her."

Can’t take granny to the dentist in a normal car. Has to be a 3 ton behemoth.
