My wife is an ob in the US. While we are definitively comfortable there’s no level of “in it for the money.” My wife works fairly absurd hours and dealt with worse hours through medschool/residency. Also came out with a solid amount of loan debt that won’t be paid off until her mid 40s. The other facet is doctor’s don’t really see many pay bumps. She’s had essentially the same hourly rate (even though she’s salary) throughout her career past residency. That won’t really change ever unless she takes on side gigs and she’ll still have to continue the rougher call hours until she’s much older.
