Nintendo’s comparably greedy, ruthless, and cruel (their legal team is up there with Disney on this part) with EA and Ubisoft but has Bill Gates style slick marketing and an army of credulous that have good feelings about wholesome nostalgia product that often leap in the way of criticism of the company.
Kinda feels like it might just be the Zelda community that doesn’t hate Nintendo?
If that is the case, that’s especially unjust because of the brutal life-crushing lawsuit that a Zelda modder/hacker got putting multiplayer into a Zelda game. If the average fandom member wasn’t as recursively reactionary and conservative as the setting’s endless P R O P H E C Y cycles, they’d be pissed about that.
People are turning on Nintendo fairly frequently these says in my experience, so thats good. But my favorite is actually people who acknowledge that Nintendo is currently doing bad things but hero worship Iwata and say this never would have happened under him despite the fact that most of the shitty draconian IP practices did in fact happen under Iwata.
Like ok, yes, the taking a salary cut so his employees didnt have to thing was relatively cool by CEO standards. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t still a corporate CEO of a AAA video game company.

A notable exception to this is the Smash Bros community which likes the games but recognises Nintendo as utterly shit and literally hostile to them.
Actually I’m willing to bet other game communities with an “online” are also fairly hostile to Nintendo for making it awful too.
And fans of any content creators that used to make content but got pushed out by terrible attitudes Nintendo have to youtube and streaming.
