It’s nearly real. Somebody slightly changed the text to include “But…”

archive.today • Opinion | Climate Change Is Real. Markets, Not Governments, Offer the Cure. - The New York Times

I don’t think it works at archive.today but if you scroll down you get to a header with…

YES, GREENLAND’S ICE IS MELTING

And if you scroll more you get to

But we need to recognize clean energy’s limitations.

Hmm, yes. The market, which to this day still fights tooth and nail to stop any real climate action, is definitely what will save us.

Its hard not to be a doomer when you have climate change denialism on one side and private, profit based solutions on the otherdoomjak

A recent paper reanalyzing some old core samples suggested that the last time Greenland was ice free, atmospheric CO2 was lower than it was today, meaning that the complete collapse of the ice sheet is more a matter of when than if. Once it does go, sea levels will rise around 7 meters. Here’s what New York city is projected to look like with 5 meters of sea level rise:

Times Square is a bit to the north of the top of this photo but it looks like the Times has a plan to get some beachfront real estate.

I’ve noticed there’s a shit ton of reality manufacturing at the moment about the free market inevitably solving climate change - obviously this was always a thing but it seems to really be ramping up, I guess in the face of undeniable evidence that climate collapse is happening - pretty mind numbing, especially when you have to constantly hear about from bazinga brained coworkers.

When it comes to libs - it’s just a question of when MSNBC starts talking about the “unfortunate necessity” of climate engineering. And after that they’ll have a special one hour program which will basically be free media for a Bill Gates’ backed project and he explain how “we got this” and the libs will go right back to brunch.

I thought it was some 🤡 going on about innovation to stop climate change, but no it’s a ghoul giddy about Greenland mining and sea routes opening, while also dropping that he “used to be” a climate change denier and of course also proselyting about “the world is getting better all the time”.

is we need to recognize clean energy’s limitations followed by nuclear advocacy? Or fossil fuel apologia?

fossil fuel apologia in the form of pointing out that building cleaner sources of energy doesn’t do anything to reduce overall demand for energy and so won’t replace fossil fuels. and then he just kinda shrugs because he’s ideologically committed to markets being the magical solution to everything, so he finishes up with a profession of faith that markets will innovate solutions despite his fairly thorough discussion before that about why they haven’t and can’t.

Yes, some have been immolated, but do not let your fear drive you to heresy; trust in the line god, sacrifice to it, and we may yet find salvation
