It sucks because I really like this app.

I wonder if we can make an official advertising channel for advertising campaigns that users can organize. For instance, someone produced an image/video advertising lemmy and others take on the duty of spreading it around and sharing where they spread it.

I actually kind of prefer it. Sites like Reddit just feel endless, but with a smaller site you can actually catch up with the news. Some more content wouldn’t hurt obviously, but it doesn’t need to become a behemoth.

I also think the nature of federation encourages smaller sites that focus around a tighter community.

I tried federated social media 5 years ago, and it was much more lonely. We are growing, but will probably be much less populated than centralized social media for a long time. Keep posting, and spread the word to bring in some fresh blood!

Yes. I’ve also pretty much ignored my Mastodon account for almost a year because engagement with other users was nonexistent.

The fediverse is just Not There™ yet in terms of having a self-sustaining user base. I’m not sure that it ever will get there.

I’m finding Lemmy more to my tastes, though I do also like Mastodon and Pixelfed. I hope that one day I’ll be able to switch between all federated profiles with a single non-browser app.
