tfw Lemmy’s other top news junkie beats you to the post
I’d say get another hobby, but I’m addicted to scrolling Lemmy
It took them nine months to finally target a “Hamas leader”, and they assassinate a political, not military, leader after butchering every single family member of his beforehand.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.
There have been several leaders killed over the past months.
“Truly, we belong to God, and truly, to Him we shall return.” (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un)
Genocide against people of Muslim faith will make them deeper believers : israNazism in action.
N.B. The Arabic word “Allah” is typically translated to English as “God”.
How’s that work is Lillahi and Ilayhi referring to God/Him? Is Inna “we”?
Inna -> We
lillahi -> (belong) to Allah
wa -> and
inna -> we (are)
ilayhi -> to Him
raji’un -> returning
i just asked a few question to an LLM to refine this translation … i know nothing of Arabic (sorry)
I love the idea that half the people in this thread don’t understand that 2 things can be bad at once.
You don’t have to fellate Hamas to see Israel is genociding.
Also, dismissing Hamas as lame terrorists doesn’t mean one is a “Zionist” or whatever the ascribed insult is this week.
So they killed one of the negotiators, and who is considered moderate and more diplomatic.
I wonder how the relatives of the hostages still held in Gaza feel about it. Israel is doing everything possible to hijack the ceasefire negotiations process.
And he will not be missed
BBC is calling him a key figure in ceasefire negotiations:
https://www.bbc.com/news/live/c4ng7g74xppt?post=asset%3A702473f5-3053-4c5d-bec9-c92763876f83#post
So Hamas or not, interesting choice of target by the genocidal apartheid state.
Edit: and Al Jazeera says:
Turkish politicians view Haniyeh as a dedicated figure who has tirelessly worked to broker a ceasefire, frequently travelling between Doha and Istanbul.
Looks to me like a natural choice: the visible head of Hamas, which is the enemy. I don’t think Israel is interested in peace negotiations, so it is also a way to say they don’t care and they will wipe out everyone there. Which is in line with everything else Bibi & company have been saying and doing.
So, who planned the Oct 7th attack? Fuck hamas and fuck bibi and his fascists for using them for his fascist politics.
Israel isn’t taking credit for that?
An Israeli military spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Israel often doesn’t when it comes to assassinations carried out by their Mossad intelligence agency.

The newest AP article has modified the statement I quoted.
An Israeli military spokesman declined to comment. Israel often doesn’t comment on assassinations carried out by its Mossad intelligence agency or strikes on other countries.
I think Iran is saying there was an airstrike, but (unless I missed it) there hasn’t been confirmation by Western countries that an airstrike took place.
The Guardian says it was a raid on a house.
I know people often just read the headline … but just reading the URL is new.
Quoting from the linked article:
has been killed by a strike in Tehran
I wonder what level of security these people follow, considering they know Israel could kill them at any time.
It seems almost ridiculous that Iran can’t prevent precision air strikes within its own borders.
Also wasn’t this the dude responsible for leading the ceasefire negotiations bruh
Israel has access to American spy sats. Haniyeh’s location would be a poor kept secret as he show up publicly for the presidential inauguration of the Iranian president on tuesday.
Destroying things with bombs and missiles is a lot easier than stopping the missiles. Even Iran managed to strike Israeli military locations beginning this year through the biggest defense layer in the world.
Interesting. It almost reads like a PR statement, restrained, not too inflammatory, like someone threw him under the bus.
The trouble with killing the people who say the propaganda is you eventually end with the people who believe the propganda in charge. This was a consistent takeaway from the war on terror. If Israel were looking to prolong the war, taking out the relative moderates would probably help.
It seems obvious that Netanyahu does not want peace. This war is the only thing keeping him in power. There is no incentive for him to seek peace.
And he’s very likely going to jail once he leaves office, so he has even more reason than most to cling on.
It’s always been about his survival.
Not "Israel " but Netanyahu and the religious extreamist. Israel wants to release all the hostages and end the useless war already
Hell, Iran wants to have it prolonged too. They’ve dreamed of this. Spent a lot of time, energy and money to have things blow up this way. They don’t care: the ends justify the means.
Iran didnt show any sign they want to prelong this war. The fact that before their drone attack notify both the US and the UK about the time of the attack refute your claim. Because they have the right to lunch a bigger attack if they wanted.
Religious extremists in Iran. It’s a global war that the 3 religions declared on the western world, but somehow we keep calling the countries by names.
Genuinely curiuos why this comment in particular got obliterated. Do people dispute the premise that the leaders are more rational then the followers?
Pissed off both sides. Pro Palestinian posters don’t like that he was called a propagandist and Pro Isrealis don’t like any implication Netanyahu is killing a massive number of people to stay in power.
Probably true lol.
I only dispute that the guy is a “moderate”, everything else I agree with.
When did Ismael made a propaganda statement. He is a diplomatic office leader. His job is to meet and speak with other power in region.

Here’s a picture of the 2 confirmed victims of that first strike you’re referring to.
Edit for sake of accuracy: Hezballah just confirmed the death of their targeted member after previously claiming he survived which should put death toll at 4 including a woman and the 2 mentioned kids along with 74 injured in the strike
Israel can’t stop slaughtering children.
Wont, not can’t. Can’t implies that it’s not a choice.
They feel compelled by the fact they don’t think the children are human
Well that’s fucked, but nobody said anything about Christians or any kind of rituals, I think it was in reference to the ongoing genocide.
Israel may be an ethnostate, but the actions of its leadership are not representative of the Jewish population as a whole. That is to say, stop disingenuously conflating criticism of a genocidal government with antisemitism.
An ‘ethnostate’ significantly more ethnically and religiously diverse than any country in Europe, the Middle East or Asia.
Japan is 99% ethnic Yamato Japanese. Is Japan an ethnostate? And should they be criticised for this?
73% of Israelis are Jews, more than half of which are Middle Eastern (Mizrahi) Jews, i.e. zero connection to Europe. The other 27% of Israeli citizens are usually Arabs who are either Muslim, Christian, Druze, Bedouin, Circassians, Baha’i, Armenians, Samaritans, etc. They have the same civil, legal, political and religious rights as Jewish Israelis. They’re represented at every level of government, including in the parliament with an explicitly Arabist political party that has once served in a coalition government.
And it’s… Israel that’s the ‘ethnostate’. Got it.
Accusing Jews of being unable to stop themselves from murdering children is unambiguous antisemitism with a long history dating back to the Middle Ages.
It’s evident that you’re cherry-picking tangential details to argue against, so let me say this in unambiguous terms:
Accusing Jews of being unable to stop themselves from murdering children is unambiguous antisemitism with a long history dating back to the Middle Ages.
People here are not accusing Jews of doing anything. We aren’t using “Israel” as a stand-in or dogwhisle for ethnically Jewish people or the Jewish religion.
People are accusing the government of Israel of being unwilling to refrain from committing war crimes.
It’s not Blood Libel if the actual government is doing it.
Antisemites have always believed this. This isn’t new. The people who claimed Jews were intent on slaughtering non-Jewish children because they saw them as sub-human did also believe that wholeheartedly. It wasn’t just a ruse.
Everyone rational has always believed this. The government of Israel is not the Jewish people any more than the government of ISIS was representative of Muslims.
Don’t be so antisemetic.
Israel isn’t Jewish people.
You aren’t being clever by doubling down on an antisemitic canard.
Says the person trying to link criticism of Israel to antisemitism.
Everyone is tired of this nonsense. Israel Is not Jewish people, many Jews outright hate the state. You can freely attack and criticise Israel without it being a reflection on Jewish people.
The only person who would think otherwise is an actual antisemite.
Everyone is tired of this nonsense.
Here’s a fun fact for you:
Even naming it—that is, calling out bigotry against Jews—can be classed as yet another sign of assumed evil intent, of Jews attacking beloved principles of justice for all. In an April 2023 lecture, David Nirenberg, the historian, presented the example of an activist with a large following whose boundary-pushing rhetoric met with accusations of anti-Semitism. The activist pointed out, as Nirenberg put it, that anti-Semitism “was merely an accusation that Jews used to silence criticism and squash free speech.” He brought libel lawsuits against newspapers that accused him of anti-Semitism, and won them. It is unfortunate for those making this argument today that this activist was named Adolf Hitler.
None of this is new. Jews have seen all of this before.
Israel Is not Jewish people, many Jews outright hate the state.
No, they don’t. 88% of British Jews have been to Israel at least once, and 73% say that they feel very or somewhat attached to the country. Eight-in-ten U.S. Jews say caring about Israel is an essential or important part of what being Jewish means to them. Nearly six-in-ten say they personally feel an emotional attachment to Israel, and a similar share say they follow news about the Jewish state at least somewhat closely. There aren’t any longer sizeable Jewish populations outside of the English-speaking or Hebrew-speaking world to compare with, they were all killed or expelled in the last century. The lesson of the 20th century to the Jews was that you either spoke English or Hebrew or you died.
You can freely attack and criticise Israel without it being a reflection on Jewish people.
Depends on the criticism.
The only person who would think otherwise is an actual antisemite.
Projection.
If you define “good” as 1) a dangerous escalation that could spark a regional war and 2) effectively killing all hope of a ceasefire in Gaza, then I guess so?
A regional war that would likely pull the US in as well.
Of course. Who else would be providing the requisite military hardware?
The slavish display that we witnessed at Netanyahu’s speech in Congress makes it clear that the US is going to back Israel no matter what.
