“We will not stop calling out and fighting back against extremist, so-called leaders who try to prevent our children from learning our true and full history,” the vice president said in Florida.

The only correct response, you don’t bargain with terrorists. Her turning up and debating it legitimises it like it’s an actual educational option and not lies.

“Terrorist: a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.”

Do you think a governor is above the law? Or can’t do anything illegal? Or that they can’t intimidate?

Please explain which part he isn’t able to do. I’m not seeing it.

And laws contradictory to what science finds are beneficial to the mental health of those with gender dysphoria. Or to be more specific, laws that harm trans people.

And laws to censor discourse about members of society based on sexual preference, thereby attempting to invalidate their existence.

These are mile markers on the path of genocide.

Features of fascism include nationalism, right wing ideology, defining an in group and out group and persecuting the latter, among other things. The actions of the GOP and DeSantis specifically are fascist.

Right wing apologists of course try to dilute the word by making bad faith claims. (See: Alt-Right Playbook video series). Those people like what DeSantis is doing and don’t see the targets as equally human, if they see them as human at all.

That goes far, far beyond disagreement into the realm of “fuck then and everything they stand for and I will do whatever needs doing to fight it.”

Honestly, that’s not even all it did. I read through the curriculum and a not insignificant portion of it is focused on discussing slavery elsewhere as if to say “other people did it too!” even though it’s a totally different form of slavery. It doesn’t require that they teach that most other forms were war slaves and they didn’t own their family/children. Chattel slavery was almost purely a European colonialism thing that the US kept performing well past it being “acceptable,” if it ever was. I’m sure it also will never include mentioning why the electoral college is so fucked up, in that it prioritized states over people in order to protect the institution of slavery.

Most terrorist leaders were equivalent to governors or higher. What the hell does holding the office of governor do to prevent someone from using fear and violence for political gain?
