Could you link me to a post where this is happening? I’ll take a look. As others have said it probably is the thumbnail resolving but the full image failing.
It doesn’t seem to happen often anymore, when I made the post it happened quite a bit.
Here’s one from today https://lemmy.world/post/17791525 this one works when I open external. This one happens to be an Imgr image, that’s not usually the case. Sometimes the picture doesn’t come up when I click open external, I assume that because it was removed. Thanks for your interest, I’ll provide more examples when I find them
